3 - Melissa Takes Down Carla

Melissa had taken control of the fight through the first half of round one.  She had masterfully kept Carla at bay with timely jabs, none which did any real damage, but collectively were starting to slow Carla's forward progress.  She would mix it up with a few combinations which, to her credit, Carla continually blocked with her hands.  When Carla would again attempt to engage she would flick out her leg again and Carla would back away.  As the fighters moved well past the halfway point, Carla attempted a leg takedown, but it was rushed and clumsy, not set up well at all and Melissa made her pay again.  This time she was able to scoot to the side and grab Carla by the waist.  They struggled but Melissa finally managed to get her body turned and picked Carla up and toss her to the mat with a textbook takedown.  She nearly gained her back but Carla was able to swivel her hips quickly and keep turning her body away from Melissa.  Not a fearsome striker, Carla felt much more comfortable on the mat and quickly demonstrated her training.  Melissa had no issues being on the mat and both ladies struggled, each attacking and countering.  It was a beautiful display of grappling until one fighter made a mistake.
